Ever heard of sigils before? Using healing sigil magic can be a fun and creative way to amplify our healing potential.
Today’s sigils work as a secret gateway to our subconscious mind. Keep reading to find out more on what sigils are and what science has to say about how they work.
What are sigils?
Essentially, a sigil is a symbol that is used in ritual magic. It used to refer to a pictorial representation of an entity that the person creating the ritual wanted to invoke in order to help with their spell.
These days, most sigil creation you’ll see talked about on the internet refers to a type of chaos magic. Here the sigil represents symbolically what the practitioner’s desired outcome is.
To create a sigil using chaos magic, firstly you need to write out your desire/intention. You then condense the letters of the statement down and rearrange them to form a type of glyph or monogram. Then you charge the sigil and bring your desire into reality (more detail on how below).
Wikipedia gives a very interesting summary of the origins of sigils and the creation of chaos magic. Click here to read it.
Does sigil magic really work?
What we refer to today as sigils originated from artist and occultist, Austin Osman Spare. He developed his own method of creating and using sigils, which no longer involved using sigils to evoke entities.
Spare argued that supernatural beings were ‘complexes in the unconscious’. His method of sigil creation instead controlled the forces in the unconscious psyche of the individual practitioner.
Recent scientific research has demonstrated that when we sleep, mediate or even daydream our conscious mind switches off, but our subconscious continues to run whether we are aware of it or not.
The problem with this, is that it’s in our subconscious minds where we store a good deal of our beliefs. Most of these beliefs were created when we were children.
These stored beliefs create a constant chatter of subconscious thoughts. If we suffered any kind of trauma or were taught limiting-beliefs about ourselves as kids, these constantly negative thoughts can lead to disease and failure in life.

The good news is that positive beliefs can also be stored in our subconscious and they can lead us to good health and success.
Through the use of sigils it’s possible to reprogram your subconscious brain with intentions and affirmations that support you in becoming your best self and living your best life.
If you think something as simple as a little symbol can’t achieve all that, think about the impact that symbols have had on society from brands such as ‘Apple, ‘ MacDonalds’, ‘Nike’ and ‘Coke’.
Many researchers argue that these logos act as a form of sigil on today’s society. The constant exposure to this subtle form of suggestion influences our subconscious mind to favor certain brands and making certain buying choices.
Using healing sigil magic to increase your healing potential
So now we know more about the origins of sigils and how they work, let’s get into how we go about creating them.
Honestly, I think there’s no right or wrong way to creating a sigil. It’s something personal and you’ll be led in creating one that is right for you.
Here are the key steps to follow:
- Write down your intention or affirmation
- Condense the statement by removing all the vowels and repeated letters
- Now with the remaining letters, arrange them artistically to create a symbol
- Once you’ve created the sigil, you have to charge it
Now the ‘charging’ step differs depending on who you follow.
You can charge it by:
- Staring at it intently for a certain amount of time, while trying to invoke any kind of powerful feeling you have (anger, love, hate, joy – they all work)
- Meditate on it by keeping your eyes open but leaving your mind to drift off
Here are some other things people like to do to help strengthen the power of their sigils:
- Create the sigil at midnight of the night of a full moon. Meditate on it and then leave it for a month. Destroy it with either fire or water on the night of the next full moon.
- Hang the sigil on the wall of your house or bedroom so you can glance at it regularly.
Some people say you have to destroy the sigil as soon as it’s been charged. Others think it’s better to keep the sigil in view until you feel it’s become fully realized. It’s up to you!
As you can imagine, how long it will take for the sigil’s magic to take effect depends on lots of factors.
My Healing Sigils Affirmation Oracle
You can try using healing sigil magic to manifest goals or dreams. I also like to use sigils to help on my personal healing journey.
Teamed up with positive affirmations, I’ve found them to be a great source of comfort and inspiration.
As you can see in the image above, one of the affirming statements I chose as part of my sigil deck was: I can do it.
Removing the vowels and repeated letters, left me with C,N, D, T. I then arranged them in a way that was visually pleasing to me and the sigil was created.
This is something that you can also do at home with just a pen and paper, in less than five minutes.
I use my ‘Healing Sigils Affirmation Oracle‘ as part of a full reading with tarot and other oracle cards. I also pick a card a day and spend time meditating on it, helping to imprint those healthy and positive affirmations into my subconscious.
This beautiful 40-card deck is available now as an instant download, where you print out the cards yourself, or you can order a the cards as a physical deck. Click here to buy now.
